Memorial for Luke Batty

The Tyabb Cricket Club continues to mourn the tragic loss of its young member, Luke Batty, who died on its grounds in February 2014. In honour of Luke’s life, the Tyabb community have raised almost $120,000 to rebuild the cricket nets and erect a walk-through memorial garden where the club’s practise facilities formerly stood. It offers a peaceful place for the community to remember Luke.

Street Furniture Australia (SFA) donated two Mall seats to the memorial garden. The project was officially opened on 14 November and Eddie Dowers, a member of SFA’s sales team, attended the event in support.

In October, Luke’s mother, Rosie Batty, was made Victoria’s Australian of the Year for her work as a domestic violence campaigner. She has also joined the Tyabb Cricket Club’s committee, in a show of strength and support to a community who has helped to create such a beautiful tribute to her son.

Western Sydney train stations kickstart prototype ‘Power Spots’

Street Furniture Australia has designed and built prototype charging stands as part of a Transport for NSW program to deliver free phone chargers at 15 Sydney train stations. Developed by Street Furniture Australia’s inhouse industrial designers in collaboration with Transport for NSW, the prototypes offer wireless, USB-A and USB-C charging, and can power 7 devices at once. They were built at the Street Furniture Australia factory in Western Sydney. Two Power Spots are now installed at Liverpool and Campbelltown stations. The $1 million Power Spots Project rollout to 15 transport hubs including Bankstown, Hurstville, Lidcombe, Penrith, Wynyard, Central, Town Hall and Bondi Junction will be completed by late 2024. RSL revives memorial fountain

War memorials in towns across the country are being restored to honour the Centenary of Anzac, with a new drinking fountain the latest upgrade to Taree’s Fotheringham Park. The original fountain was installed in 1960 by the Manning River Air Force Association, but fell into disrepair. Some 55 years later an Arqua Drinking Fountain from Street Furniture Australia takes its place, providing running water again with disabled access and a special feature for pets. Hey, R U OK?

A new initiative by suicide prevention charity group R U OK? aims to remind school students to look out for one another. In partnership with Yellow Pages, R U OK? are launching 65 Conversation Corners across high schools to create a space for students to talk with friends who may be struggling with life’s highs and lows. The 65 schools awarded a bench had to submit 150 words as to why the bench was a great idea for their school. Students at James Meehan High School in Macquarie Fields are among the first to launch their Conversation Corner. Proud Supporters of Kidsafe NSW

The kid’s playground at Westmead Children’s Hospital is currently undergoing renovations. The aim of the play space is to highlight the different types of play, various equipment and surfacing products types, the incorporation of the natural environment and native plant species.
