Dalwood Spilstead Service NSW, Australia (2020)

Street Furniture Australia has donated six Mall Curved Slim Benches to the Dalwood Spilstead Service, which provides support to vulnerable families and children in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The centre has received donations from local businesses of paint, flooring, appliances, furniture and lighting for a spruce-up in 2020 to create “a truly relaxing environment for our families which will last another 40-50 years,” says Michelle Chim, from the Friends of Dalwood Spilstead Service.

The freestanding curved benches have been set up on the lawn outside the Dalwood Home, and can be moved about to suit the daily needs of the community – pushed together in groups or set under a shady tree.

“The Dalwood Spilstead Service endeavours to provide nurturing spaces for staff and their clients to have therapeutic discussions. Our brand new street furniture has opened a whole outdoor space to be used and the response from everyone has been overwhelmingly positive. They love the colours and the adaptability of configuration in particular,” says Simon Grace, from the Dalwood Spilstead Service.

“Since the benches have been delivered, the way they are used changes nearly every day to suit the people using them. We can’t thank you enough!”

The benches are powder coated in fade-resistant DuraBright Lycra Strip green, with Night Sky frames.

Donations to the Dalwood Spilstead Service are tax deductible and can be made online via their Donate page.

A largely vertical school, the Homebush West campus underwent a $30 million upgrade including new buildings, a rooftop playground and improved amenities in its surrounding spaces. This included refurbishing and expanding the Covered Outdoor Learning Area, to suit “future focused learning,” say architects TKD. Additionally, they say, “critical to the design of this project is the use of the roof space of the building for active and passive play space. These new learning facilities are designed to meet with the school’s aspirations for contemporary pedagogy.” Context Landscape Architects have specified a range of tailored Street Furniture Australia benches, with straight and curved for the rooftop playground, and circular for the ground level. Combining the curved and straight benches forms diverse spaces for the rooftop space, says Context Design Director Hamish Dounan, …

St Anthony’s Catholic School

Rainbow benches are installed in outdoor learning and play areas of St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School in Marsfield in northern Sydney. The students were consulted in the design of their new playground, says Principal Julianne Rook, and requested ‘Rainbow Seats’ to brighten the space. “They chose vivid, happy colours to complement the soft fall and shade cloth colours, favouring a combination of curved and straight seating,” she says. “The space is multi-functional, serving as both an outdoor learning and interactive play space.” Mall Curved Slim Benches are paired with Mall Slim Benches to create curved and straight formations. The battens are powdercoated in Lobster Red, Sensation Orange, Brilliant Yellow, Viper Green, Bondi Blue and Jaybird – with Lobster Red frames – for the rainbow effect. The colours are part of …
