Wood Without Worry movable furniture has been specified by HEWITT Seattle for a new Google Campus at the Kirkland Urban mixed use development.
Google has purchased around 400,000 square feet of office space across the North and Central buildings for $40 million, and recently added more space with the acquisition of the Kirkland Urban East plot.
The development includes new retailer tenants Shake Shack, Seattle Coffee Gear, First Tech Federal Credit Union, Chainline Brewing Co and Evergreens.
HEWITT Seattle has created an expansive outdoor area for workers and shoppers with generous provision for dining and relaxing through moveable furniture.
“To address accommodation and to reinforce a sense of place for the 12 acre mixed-use Google campus, it was identified early in the project that varied and inviting movable site furnishings was a critical element,” says Myles Harvey, Landscape Architect with HEWITT Seattle.
“Among the paramount factors for HEWITT when selecting the furnishings were the elegance and visual warmth of the furniture design balanced with the durability and ease of maintenance. Cost and lead time were also important items to weigh, particularly to the ownership team.
“The inclusion of the Street Furniture Australia products meets all the project requirements and enriches the character and experience of the overall site.”
Wood Without Worry, or aluminium woodgrain, in Bush Cherry, provides the warmth of timber with very easy maintenance requirements. HEWITT has paired the battens with Woodland Grey powdercoated frames.
Around 50 single and three-seater freestanding Forum Seats are matched with Forum Low Tables and Cafe Round Tables to create comfortable, flexible settings.
The furniture is light enough to reposition, but heavy enough to deter theft. It is engineered for durability, withstanding the tough demands of public space environments.
The campus is Google’s second space in the east Seattle suburb – it already has a huge separate Kirkland campus where it first set up more than 15 years ago.
