Renmark Paringa Council has created a hub to meet, play, relax and enjoy views of the Murray River in the Taylor Riverfront Precinct, designed by Jensen PLUS.
The precinct will help build a stronger Renmark community by providing an enhanced riverfront recreation area that is a destination for locals and visitors, said Lisel McLeay, Associate with Jensen PLUS.
“The park encourages people – especially families – to meet and spend time outside, in a place that provides high quality BBQ and recreation facilities in a spectacular riverine environment. There is plentiful shelter, with accessible furniture and a unique play element that is comfortable and safe,” she told StreetChat.
“It’s an event space, a spot to meet each other and for visitors to stop and experience what Renmark has to offer. In easy walking distance to shops and eateries, the open space is now a natural gathering place – where people attract more people.”
The landscape architect completed extensive community consultation in the development of an Urban Design Framework for Council in 2016, and have applied their knowledge of the township and community to the precinct design.
The space includes a 24-metre river deck with sheltered area that features an extra-long Classic Plaza Back-to-Back Seat in the tailored length of 5.2 metres.
The seat features Wood Without Worry aluminium woodgrain battens in Spotted Gum, with a Sable Bass frame. It was installed by Maritime Constructions.
A representative from Renmark Paringa Council said, “We were thrilled once the Taylor Riverfront Precinct was open to the public in early March. The feedback received from the community was overwhelmingly positive and supportive.
“From what was a pretty but underutilised space has become the jewel in the heart of Renmark’s town. The opening weekend for the Precinct was amazing, the town was full of visitors to the Region and the local Riverland community visited the new and exciting space to check it out for themselves
“We saw people of all ages and backgrounds utilise the space and we were so happy because it showcased the social inclusion we were aiming to achieve. The design, amenities and the location of the Taylor Riverfront Precinct has become one of our town’s busiest hubs. We could not be more satisfied with the Precinct and are extremely thankful to those who played a part in making it happen.”
Jensen PLUS has specified plinth-mounted Mall DDA Seats looking onto an open turf area and gardens where more than 1000 rose bushes will be planted for the Renmark Riverland Rose Festival.
A water play area with sculptural ‘wine glass’ forms represent the major rivers of the Murray Darling River System and the local grape industry.
The Mall DDA Seats feature eco-certified Jarrah battens, with frames in the tailored colour of Metropolis Storm Pearl grey.
Arqua Fountains provide drinking water and bottle-refilling, also powdercoated in Metropolis Storm Pearl grey.
Frame Bin Enclosures help to keep the area clean and tidy, featuring Wood Without Worry custom battens in Spotted Gum. This part of the park was installed by LCS Landscapes.
The $3.8 million project includes $1.4 million from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and $550,000 from the SA State Government’s Places for People Program.
